Work Experience Requirements
To be eligible for the AIP program, you must fulfill these work experience requirements:
- Minimum hours: You should have worked a minimum of 1,560 hours in the past 5 years.
- Hour calculation: Count both full-time and part-time hours worked.
- Paid hours only: Only include paid hours of work; exclude volunteer or unpaid hours.
- Self-employment hours: Do not count hours from self-employment.
- Authorized work: You must have had legal authorization to work as a temporary resident in Canada.
- Accumulated hours: Count the hours accumulated for at least 12 months.
- Work experience during the study: Work experience gained while studying is eligible if it meets the conditions of your study permit.
- National Occupational Classification (NOC) category: Your work experience must fall under NOC categories 0, 1, 2, or 3.
- Duties and actions: Your work experience should involve performing the actions and most of the primary duties described in your NOC.

International graduates
International students who have graduated in Canada can be exempt from the work experience requirements if they meet the following criteria:
- Duration of studies: They hold a degree, diploma, certificate, or trade or apprenticeship certification that requires a minimum of 2 years of study. The qualification must be obtained from a recognized post-secondary institution in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, or Newfoundland and Labrador.
- Full-time student status: They were enrolled as full-time students throughout their entire academic program.
- Valid visa or permit: They possessed the necessary visa or permit that allowed them to work, study, or receive training while residing in Canada.
- Residency in Atlantic provinces: They resided in one of the Atlantic provinces (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, or Newfoundland and Labrador) for at least 16 months within the last 2 years before their graduation.
Educational Requirements:
- If your job offer falls under NOC TEER category 0 or 1, you must have a post-secondary educational credential of at least one year or its equivalent outside of Canada.
- If your job offer is categorized under NOC TEER category 2, 3, or 4, you must possess a Canadian high school diploma or its equivalent outside of Canada.
- If you completed your studies outside of Canada, you will need to obtain an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) to verify that your education is equivalent to the Canadian educational standards required for your job offer. The ECA report should be dated within the last 5 years when IRCC (Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada) receives your application.
Language Requirements:
- For job offers in NOC TEER category 0 or 1, you must have a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) or Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens (NCLC) level of 5.
- For job offers in NOC TEER categories 2, 3, or 4, you must have a CLB or NCLC level of 4.
- You must provide IRCC with test results from a designated language testing organization. The test results should be dated within the last 2 years at the time of your application.
Settlement Funds:
- If you are currently living in Canada and possess a valid work permit, you are not required to demonstrate proof of funds.
- For all other applicants, you must show that you have sufficient funds to support yourself and your family upon arrival in Canada. The required amount depends on the size of your family, including anyone you financially support who is not immigrating with you. Please refer to the table below for specific details:
