As of January 30, 2024, IRCC officially approves the use of PTE Core for Canadian immigration, excluding SDS. This includes PNP candidates and those in Express Entry programs, offering a broader language assessment option.
As per the announcement by IRCC, January 30th, 2024, onwards the Pearson Test of English (PTE) Core has been officially sanctioned for employment across various Canadian immigration pathways, excluding the Student Direct Stream (SDS).
This endorsement extends to Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates, participants in Express Entry managed programs, and individuals necessitating a language test for Canadian immigration endeavors (excluding the SDS).
Notably, this includes those applying for Canadian citizenship. The PTE Core emerges as the designated language proficiency assessment, hence, contributing to a refined and comprehensive Canadian immigration framework.
Introducing the PTE Core
The PTE Core, a computer-based language proficiency test for Canadian immigration, assesses general English skills in speaking, writing, reading, and listening within a two-hour timeframe.
Administered in over 400 global locations, this test’s results are typically available within 2 days, and the appearing candidates are scored by a combination of human and AI evaluation.
The PTE test is divided into three sections, namely
- Speaking and writing (50 minutes)
- Reading (30 minutes)
- Listening (30 minutes)
Replacing the previous PTE Essential test, the PTE Core is now the preferred choice. Immigration candidates must select the correct test variant for their specific program.
