New Working Holiday Visa for Indians in Australia
Under this new working holiday visa, Indians can visit Australia for 1 year and pursue work or study (short term) opportunities while holidaying. Moving forward for each program year Australia may grant First Work and Holiday Visas (Subclass 462) to up to 1,000 eligible Indian applicants.
From October 1, Indian passport holders can proceed to register in the visa pre application (ballot) process for the program year 2024 - 2025.
Work and Holiday Visa Ballot Process
The visa ballot process would provide applicants who have registered, the possibility to a random selection process to apply for a visa.
The Australian immigration authorities would conduct random sections of registered applications between October 14, 2024 to April 30, 2025. The candidates that would be randomly selected to apply would be further notified by email.
As stated by Australian Assistant Minister for Immigration - Matt Thistlethwaite - “This visa would provide an opportunity to 1000 young Indians aged between 18 - 30 years to work and study for one year as they travel for one year to experience Australian lifestyle. This visa is symbolic of the growing economic and cultural ties between both the countries which are growing from strength to strength.”
The visa cost is set at A$650 and the applicants would also need to pay a nominal A$25 to apply for the ballot. Since this ballot would be through a computer, which will randomly select candidates, hence this would leave no change for human involvement. Health and character checks will also be undertaken to confirm the applicants' eligibility.
