India has achieved its best ranking in a decade on the Henley Passport Index 2025, climbing to the 77th position from 85th last year. This marks an eight-place jump in just one year and an overall rise of eleven places over the past ten years.
The number of destinations accessible without a prior visa for Indians has risen from 57 to 59 this year. While this is a modest increase, it signifies steady progress in global mobility for Indian travellers. Such developments are particularly notable given the highly competitive nature of international passport rankings.
In 2025, Asian countries continue to dominate the top positions. Singapore holds the first spot with a visa-free score of 193, followed closely by Japan and South Korea at 190. This leadership underlines the strength and global reach of several Asian nations in facilitating international travel.
The Henley Passport Index evaluates 199 passports and 227 destinations, relying on verified data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Seven EU nations share the third position with a score of 189, while both the UK and US have slipped in rankings compared to last year, showing that even powerful passports face shifts in global mobility trends.
