Australia Introduces Invitation-Only National Innovation Visa for Global Talent

On December 7, 2024 the Australian government introduced the National Innovation Visa (NIV), an invitation only permanent residency program aimed at attracting exceptionally talented individuals from all around the world.
This exclusive visa replaced the Global Talent Visa, which was closed to new applicants on December 6, 2024. However the applications already submitted under the previous program would still be processed.

Who is Eligibility For National Innovation Visa?
The NIV program is designed to bring in established and emerging leaders with world class skills who can significantly contribute to Australia's future prosperity. Eligible applicants include global researchers, entrepreneurs, innovative investors, high performing athletes, and creative professionals.
Few of the mandatory eligibility requirements to apply for a National Innovation visa include:
- Applicants must first receive an invitation from the Department of Home Affairs
- Candidates need an internationally recognised record of exceptional achievement in a profession, sport, arts or research
- Applicants must be nominated by an Australian citizen, permanent president, eligible New Zealand citizen, or an Australian organisation, with the national reputation in the applicants field
- There is no age restriction and English language requirements are adaptable.
How to Apply for a National Innovation Visa (NIV)?
The process to apply for a national innovation visa program is as follows
- Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI Australia) detailing your achievements.
- If selected, candidate will receive a unique reference to use Invitation to apply for their visa application which must be lodged within 60 days
- Submit your online application along with supporting documents and pay the applicable visa application fee (starting at AUD 4,840)
- The Department of home affairs will inform applicants of their decision in writing.
*EOI Australia are valid for two years, and applicants can apply from within or outside Australia
