South Australia Launches Skilled Migration Talent and Industry Connection Program to Bridge Workforce Gaps

South Australia’s new Skilled Migration Talent and Industry Connection Program is designed to bridge the gap between skilled migrants and local job opportunities, matching their expertise with in-demand roles. With an investment of over AUD 1.5 million announced in March 2025, the South Australian Government is backing six partner organisations to deliver this initiative.
Running until June 2026, the program offers a range of services, including job-readiness, language support, industry networking events, and career expos to help migrants thrive in the local workforce.
Programs Under Skilled Migration Talent and Industry Connection Program
South Australia Government’s Skilled Migration Talent and Industry Connection Program has collaborated with six organisations to support skilled migrants in securing employment within priority sectors such as engineering, construction, and ICT. Below are the partner organisations and their programs.
1. Master Builders Association of SA: ‘BuildConnect’
This initiative assists skilled migrants in securing employment in South Australia’s booming building and construction industry.
- Employment Matching: Aligns skilled migrants with job opportunities in the construction sector.
- Industry Networking Events: Creates opportunities for professionals to connect with employers and industry experts.
- Support Services: Provides comprehensive recruitment assistance to both skilled workers and employers, ensuring a smooth transition from connection to collaboration.

2. Australian Migrant Resource Centre (AMRC): ‘Connect, Thrive, and Contribute’
The AMRC supports skilled migrants and refugees by helping them integrate into the South Australian workforce and community through training and engagement programs.
- Settlement Service: Comprehensive support to help migrants establish secure and fulfilling lives in South Australia.
- Training and Employment: Provides skills training, job readiness programs, and employment pathways.
- Community Engagement: Strengthens leadership, governance, and cultural initiatives to empower individuals and organizations.
3. The Committee for Adelaide: ‘Adelaide Connected’
This initiative helps skilled migrants build strong professional networks in Adelaide while exploring career and business opportunities.
- Networking Opportunities: Facilitates connections for individuals who have recently moved to Adelaide, helping them integrate into the community and professional landscape.
- Information on Opportunities: Provides insights into existing and emerging opportunities in sectors like high-tech, space, defense, ag-tech, health, and bio-med, energy and mining, tourism, and the creative industry.
- Promotion of Adelaide: Encourages professionals to move for career prospects, boosting investment and tourism.

4. The South Australian Business Chamber: ‘Skilled Migration Industry Connection Project
This program helps migrant workers secure employment in South Australian businesses facing workforce shortages. It covers essential skills such as resume writing, interview preparation, understanding Australian workplace culture, and includes a career expo.
- Employer Engagement: Collaborates with local businesses to identify skill shortages and create employment opportunities for skilled migrants.
- Industry Events: Organizes events to connect migrants with potential employers and industry leaders.
5. SkillSmart Careers: ‘Engineering Australia’
This program connects engineers to employment opportunities on the Eyre Peninsula and in the Far North through a 10-week course, pre-arrival information, regional tours, and customized career guidance.
- Career Development Workshops: Focuses on employability skills, job applications, and workplace expectations.
- Mentorship Opportunities: Provides 6 hours of individual mentorship with experienced professionals for career guidance.
- Regional Employment Support: Includes a four-day tour of the Eyre Peninsula and Far North, where participants visit and meet employers in Port Augusta, Whyalla, Tumby Bay, and Port Lincoln.

6. Community Corporate: South Australia Migrant Job Support Centre
This program helps skilled migrants prepare for the job market through targeted training and employer connections, focusing on key industries such as ICT, engineering and construction, health and social services, finance, project management, and more.
- Eligibility Requirements: Applicants must reside in South Australia, have skills listed on the Skilled and Business Migration Occupation List, and meet Skill Levels 1 to 3 as per the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO).
- Visa Eligibility: Open to holders of eligible visas with unlimited work rights, including Skilled Independent (subclass 189), State/Territory Nominated (subclass 190), Skilled Work Regional (subclass 491/489), Global Talent (subclass 858), and Temporary Graduate (subclass 485, with conditions).
