Alberta Introduces New EOI-Based Immigration System Beginning September 30, 2024

The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) is all set to upgrade its immigration system or process with a new Expression of Interest (EOI) system starting September 30, 2024. This new system would ensure improved efficiency in immigration processing while meeting Alberta’s labor market needs.
The introduced EOI system is a point-based selection mechanism, wherein applicants can express their interest to immigrating to Alberta. After submitting their EOI, candidates would enter a selection pool (i.e., similar to Express Entry system).
AIPP will periodically draw candidates having the highest rankings in the pool that align with the current provincial labor market need.

The New EOI System of AAIP
The new EOI system is being integrated to ensure dynamic and responsive immigration opportunities to Alberta, potentially reducing the processing times for candidates and parallelly effectively meeting the labor market needs of the province. The streams or pathways that are selected to be operated under the new EOI system of Alberta are:
- Alberta Express Entry
- Alberta Opportunity Stream
- Rural Renewal Stream
- Graduate Entrepreneur Stream
- Tourism and Hospitality Stream
The key features of the new EOI system proposed by the Alberta Advantage Immigrant Program (AAIP) are:
- Continuous Intakes: Unlike the current system which has fixed application dates and quotas, the new EOI system would allow candidates to submit their interests at any time, leading to a continuous process of intakes and processing.
- Rank Based Selections: Candidates would be ranked based on factors like skills, work experience, and their potential to fulfill the province’s economic requirements. The candidates with the highest rankings will have a better chance of receiving ITA.
- Labor Market Focused Draws: The selection process would signify a focus on prioritizing candidates who could contribute to Alberta’s economic needs by meeting the current or at point province’s labor market demand.
Transition to New AAIP EOI System
As Alberta would initiate the implementation of the new EOI system starting September 30, 2024, the AAIP will halt all the remaining monthly application acceptance dates for 2024. This measure is taken to ensure a smooth transition to the new continuous intake process
