Canada Extends Immigration Medical Exam Exemption Until 2029

The Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced an extension to the Temporary Public Policy, exempting certain low risk in-Canada foreign nationals from undergoing an additional Immigration Medical Examination (IME).

This policy which was originally introduced 2 years ago and has already benefited over 286,000 applicants and will now further remain in effect until October 5 2029. This extension is expected to further streamline the immigration process allowing faster Canada visa processing times for eligible applicants while upholding Canada's rigorous public health standards.

Who Qualifies for the Extended Temporary Public Policy?

The Temporary Public Policy Canada which has significantly sped up the application process over the past 2 years is aimed at low risk foreign nationals already in Canada.

With this extension more applicants can benefit from expedited procedures avoiding the need for a second medical examination. The extension would be applicable to foreign national living in Canada meeting the following criteria:

Have a new or pending application for permanent or temporary residence, or for a permanent resident visa.
Have completed an Immigration Medical Examination (IME) within the last 5 years (even though it has expired)
Have complied with the Public Health monitoring guidelines when necessary and do not pose a public health or safety risk
