Canada has revised its immigration fee structure effective December 1, 2025, impacting inadmissibility-related applications and the International Experience Canada (IEC) work permit. Applicants submitting after this date must pay the updated fees.
Starting December 1, 2025, the Canadian federal government has implemented a new immigration fee structure for programs, such as inadmissibility-related fees and International Experience Canada (IEC) Work Permit processing fees.
Applicants who have submitted an online application and paid the old fee before midnight on December 1, 2025, will not be affected by this update. However, individuals who submitted a paper application before this date might have to pay the new fee or the difference, due to the delay between the application being sent and received.
Updated Canada Immigration Fees from December 1, 2025
1. Inadmissibility Fees
The application categories, which were a part of the increased fee structure and were affected by the recent changes to inadmissibility fees, include:
| Application Type | Old Fee (CAD) | New Fee (Effective Dec 1, 2025) (in CAD) |
|---|---|---|
| Authorization to return to Canada | 479.75 | 492.5 |
| Temporary resident permit | 239.75 | 246.25 |
| Criminal rehabilitation – inadmissibility due to criminality | 239.75 | 246.25 |
| Criminal rehabilitation — inadmissibility due to serious criminality | 1,199.00 | 1,231.00 |
| Restoration of visitor status | 239.75 | 246.25 |
| Restoration of worker status – without new work permit | 239.75 | 246.25 |
| Restoration of worker status – with new work permit | 394.75 | 401.25 |
| Restoration of student status – without new study permit | 239.75 | 246.25 |
| Restoration of student status – with new study permit | 389.75 | 396.25 |
- Authorization to Return to Canada is for candidates who want to return to Canada after being asked to leave. Paying these fees allows them to return legally. These applications are typically clubbed along with other applications, such as work or study permit applications
- Temporary Resident Permit is a document that grants temporary entry into Canada for those who are inadmissible, only provided if they have a compelling reason to enter Canada and the need outweighs their risk to Canadian society.
- Criminal Rehabilitation applicants must be admissible to Canada to enter, provided they have passed at least five years since completing the sentence for which they were deemed inadmissible, and may be able to apply to have their past criminal history permanently wiped. The fee to do so, however, depends on the nature of their offence (specifically, if it falls under criminality or serious criminality)
- Restoration of Visitor, Student, or Work Status, is for temporary resident status holders whose visa has expired and they have not applied for an extension. Then they must either leave Canada or apply for restoration of status within 90 days of losing it.
