The Canadian residents will receive the next installment of the Canada Child Benefit (CCB) payment by October 20, 2023. There are two more monthly disbursements left for this year.
The Canada Child Benefit (CCB) is a tax-free monthly payment provided to eligible families to assist them in covering the expenses associated with raising children under the age of 18.
In an effort to alleviate the challenges posed by the increasing cost of living, Canada Child Benefit (CCB) payments were augmented by 6.3% in July 2023. Consequently, for this year, the CCB for children under the age of six has risen from a maximum of $6,997 annually to $7,437 annually.
For the 2023-2024 period, the income eligibility requirements for the Canada Child Benefit have been adjusted to accommodate inflation. This change aims to expand the number of eligible families who can receive the maximum monthly benefit.

Understanding CCB Notice
The CRA issues a Canada Child Benefit Notice within 80 calendar days of receiving your CCB application. This notice details the amount of your benefit and how it was calculated.
Adjusted Family Net Income (AFNI)
AFNI is calculated as follows:
- Start with the family net income (line 23600 of your tax return and your spouse's or common-law partner's tax return).
- Subtract any universal child care benefit (UCCB) and registered disability savings plan (RDSP) income received (line 11700 and line 12500 of your or your spouse's tax return).
- Add any UCCB and RDSP amounts repaid (line 21300 and line 23200 of your or your spouse's tax return).
CCB Payment Recalculation
Your CCB benefit is recalculated every July based on your adjusted family net income from the previous year. It's indexed to inflation. For instance:
- Payments from July 2023 to June 2024 are based on your adjusted family net income from 2022.
- Payments from July 2022 to June 2023 are based on your adjusted family net income from 2021.
- In other words, changes in your income in 2022 will only impact your payments starting in July 2023.
