As part of the move to attract Indian skilled professionals, Sweden is all set to implement the revised EU Blue Card Directives from January 1, 2025. Now as we note that where countries like Canada and the United Kingdom have tightened their immigration policies, this initiative aims to position Sweden as a top destination for talent, particularly in technology, engineering, and healthcare sectors.
As stated by Swedish embassy in New Delhi “The legislative process to implement the EU’s new Blue Card Directive in Sweden is ongoing. The Swedish government has presented a bill to the Swedish parliament to implement the new Blue Card by January 1.”
The updated directive aims to simplify access to high paying jobs and long term career opportunities for foreign skilled talent in Sweden. The major key changes include - reduced salary threshold, greater flexibility for Blue Card holders to switch employers without needing to reapply for a new card.
These changes are expected to significantly benefit Indian professionals by streamlining the process of securing a Blue Card for employment in Sweden.
