IRCC Incorporates New English Language Tests For SDS Applicants

As of August 10, 2023, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) have recently sanctioned four new English Language Tests for applicants under the Student Direct Stream (SDS).
The New English language tests are
- Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP).
- Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-Based test (TOEFL).
- Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL)
- Pearson Test of English (PTE)
- International English Language Testing Systems (IELTS)
Eligibility Scores for English Language tests allotted by the IRCC are as follows:

Note: Box Importantly, these tests must be taken in person; as online or remotely proctored tests are not eligible for the SDS applicants’ consideration.

Eligibility To Meet SDS
The basic requirements that a candidate needs to apply to meet SDS are listed below.
- Hold legal residency in one of the specified nations.
- Furnish a copy of their acceptance letter from a Canadian Designated Learning Institution (DLI).
- Present confirmation of a pre-arrival medical examination.
- Demonstrate possession of a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) worth $10,000 or its acquisition.
- Validate payment of first-year tuition fees.
- Verify language proficiency with eligible test scores obtained within two years of application.
- Lodge their application through a Visa Application Centre (VAC).
IELTS band score requirements for SDS applications
From August 10, 2023, for IELTS Academic applicants, an overall band score of 6.0 is required, while a score of 6.0 in each skill is necessary for earlier applications. For IELTS General Training applicants, a 6.0 in each skill section is essential, regardless of the application date relative to August 10, 2023.
