The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) has updated its criteria to better align it provincial Nominee Program with the federal Express Entry targeted draws, majorly with respect to the Skilled Trades and Human Capital Priorities (HCP) streams.
Candidates in the Express Entry pool now need at least 6 months of experience in their primary occupation, down from the previous requirement of 1 year. However, a total of 1 year of cumulative experience across different occupations is still required.

1. Skilled Trades Stream: Candidates in the Express Entry pool now need at least 6 months of experience in their primary occupation, down from the previous requirement of 1 year.
However, candidates must have at least 1 year of cumulative full-time paid work experience, or equivalent part-time work, in specific Ontario Major and Minor Groups of the National Occupational Classification (NOC), excluding certain occupations such as transportation officers, cooks, and aircraft assemblers.
2. Human Capital Priorities (HCP) Stream: Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates must have 1 year of cumulative full-time paid work experience, or equivalent part-time work, in Canada within TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 occupations. For targeted OINP draws, candidates now need only 6 months of experience in their primary NOC code.
