Manitoba to End Temporary Public Policy for Work Permits
On December 6, 2024, Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) Announced that it would stop accepting applications under the temporary public policy for work permits aimed at prospective PNB candidates
This Temporary Policy was introduced in August 2024 which allowed provincial immigration authorities to issue support letters to candidates in the Expression of Interest pool or application inventory of a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).
With these letters, eligible candidates could apply for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for an Open Work Permit (OWP). The MPNP will continue to accept applications under this policy until 11:59 PM CST on Wednesday December 18, 2024.
Post this deadline, the online submission form would close and no further applications for support letters would be considered. Meanwhile, IRCC would continue to accept OWP applications under this policy until December 31, 2024.
This development marks a significant change in Manitoba's immigration process and would affect candidates relying on open work permits through this pathway.
