On October 7, 2025, the Tasmanian government officially announced the start of its Skilled Migration State Nomination Program 2025, which was set to commence in October 2025. This program offers skilled professionals the pathway to secure state nomination, which is crucial for the Australia Skilled Visa.
Amidst this, applicants must understand the differentiation between the state nominations request, which is handled by the Tasmanian government, and visa application approvals are handled by the Department of Home Affairs.
Tasmania State Nomination Program Updates and Key Highlights
Before the launch of state nominations, Migration Tasmania introduced a few key changes in order to ensure improved transparency and smoother processing. The highlights of updates include:
- Revised eligibility criteria and updates to priority attributes
- Redesigned Registration of Interest (ROI) ranking system
- Adjustments to income thresholds reflecting the current national standards
- New and clearer policy guidance and definitions
Tasmania has also shared an update regarding the nomination fee increase to AUD 370 or AUD 407 including GST ). However, they have maintained the ROI submission with no fee.
Candidates who have placed an ROI within the past six months are encouraged to review their updated ranking criteria, as these new changes could significantly improve their selection chances.
New ROI Scoring and Pass System
Tasmania has introduced a new ROI framework, which includes a colour-coded pass system to prioritise nominations. The details of this colour-coded pass system are as follows:
Color Code | Meaning |
---|---|
Gold Pass | The candidate has a score of 1000+ points The candidate is immediately available for nomination |
Green Pass | The candidate has a score of 250+ points The candidate is eligible for an invitation within 6 months |
Orange Pass | The candidate has a score of below 250 points The candidate is considered based on available nomination slots |
- Some of the “Orange Plus” attributes (worth 25 points or more) are given special consideration among the “Orange Pass” category
- The Graduate and Established Resident pathway might gain priority, considering Tasmania's goal of retaining skilled residents and attracting younger workers.
- All ROI's in the overseas applicant pathways will automatically receive a Gold pass
- The Tasmanian Business Operator (TBO) pathway does not include Green or Gold priority attributes
