For Canada Study Permit applications submitted on or after November 2024:
- University Graduates (Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral Degrees)
- Minimum proficiency of CLB 7 (English), or NCLC 7 (in French) in all language skills
- No restrictions, and all fields are eligible.
- Graduates from Other University Programs
- Minimum proficiency of CLB 5 (English), or NCLC 5 (in French)
- Limited to programs addressing long term labor market shortages.
Eligible Fields of Study: As the revised criteria prioritises studies aligned with in demand occupations, these include:
- Healthcare
- STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math)
- Trades
- Transportation
- Agriculture and Agri Foods

2. Off Campus Work Hour Restrictions
Effective from November 2024, international students would be eligible to enjoy the updated new limits on off campus work hours that is of 24 hours compared to the previous 20 hours per week.

3. End of Flogpoling for PGWP Applications
Starting from July 21, 2024, international students could no longer apply for a Post Graduate Work Permit (PGWP) at the border (a process previously known as “flagpoling”)

Flagpoling means leaving and re-entering Canada to access same day immigration services at the border. This practice has been discontinued to improve system efficiency and maintain integrity.

4. Termination of the Student Direct Stream (SDS)
