The recent announcement by IRCC Canada is surely good news for international students. Starting the fall intake in Canada, international students will now be eligible to work for 24 hours per week in place of 20 hours per week previously.
How will the Working Hours Cap Affect Current International Students in Australia?
Currently, the eligible full time international students in Canada have been working as per the previous 20 hour work hours weekly and now with the upcoming changes they will also get the change to embrace 24 hours work week (applicable during academic sessions)
The international students during the semester break are still eligible to work unlimited hours. This flexibility is retained as it is seen to be a crucial part of financial self support for students during the extended holidays

Why is the 24 hour Work Week the Best?
The decision to arrive to a revision in the current student legal work hours per week is to help facilitate students with maintaining academic integrity along with international student’s experience in Canada.
A recent study conducted in the US and Canada, indicated that students working for more than 28 hours per week were more likely to face challenges concerning their academic coursework, several times leading to dropouts.
Hence after dedicated research, IRCC Canada has implemented the 24 hour work week to help students balance their academic pursuits and gain practical experience through their education journey in Canada.
