In an effort to address critical skill gaps in the region, New South Wales has extended invitations to skilled professionals in key sectors like healthcare, education, information technology, infrastructure, and agriculture as part of its 2023-24 migration program.

In the Migration Program framework, the allocation of nominations is distributed to various states and territories across three visa categories:

• Skilled – Nominated Visa (subclass 190)
• Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa (subclass 491)
• Business Innovation and Investment Program (BIIP)

Each state and territory, however, assesses eligible applicants according to their region-specific criteria.

For the fiscal year 2023-24, New South Wales (NSW) has been granted 4,150 visa slots, marking a substantial reduction compared to the 12,000 slots it received in the prior financial year.

The Australian government is the one who decides the quota for skilled visa nominations annually. Although the nationwide allocation has been reduced, New South Wales (NSW) has been granted the highest allocation among all states and territories.

The state has introduced a new approach, moving away from publishing a list of eligible ANZSCO unit groups and instead adopting a sector-focused strategy.

Additionally, professionals in the fields of education, information technology, civil engineering, and draftspersons are also included."

Expression of interest (EOI) to New South Wales, Australia

The state has specified that it will take multiple factors into account when assessing Expressions of Interest (EOIs) applications.

These factors include your points score, proficiency in the English language, and your professional experience in skilled work. EOIs submitted in NSW Priority Sectors will receive preferential treatment," as stated by the authorities.

In the latest allocation, the state has been granted a reduced quota of visa slots, comprising 1,500 for visa subclass 491 and 2,650 for visa subclass 190 this year. However, individuals who meet all the stipulated criteria are encouraged to submit their applications, as they could still qualify for state nomination invitations.
