New Zealand is strengthening its academic ties with India through the launch of the New Zealand Excellence Awards (NZEA) 2025. This announcement followed New Zealand’s Prime Minister Christoper Luxon’s visit to India, an initiative aiming to provide additional support to Indian students to pursue top tier education in one of the world’s most peaceful and sustainable nations - New Zealand.
Highlights of the Scholarships and Benefits for Indian Students
NZEA 2025, a collaboration between Education New Zealand Manapou ki te Ao and eight of the country’s leading universities, to offer 29 scholarships to Indian students for undergraduate and postgraduate studies.
These scholarships range from NZD 5,000 to NZD 20,000, and help ease the financial burdens while opening doors to global career opportunities for Indian students.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for NZEA 2025, applicants must meet the following conditions:
- Ne at least 18 years old
- Be an Indian citizen (not a permanent resident of New Zealand or Australia)
- Fulfill Immigration New Zealand’s student visa requirements
- Reside in India at the time of application
- Hold an unconditional offer from an eligible university
Application Process for NZEA
The application window opened on March 18, 2025 and closed on April 30, 2025. Interested students can apply by following these steps:
Step 1: Explore study programs at studywithnewzealand.govt.nz
Step 2: Submit an application directly to the university or through authorised agents
Step 3: Apply for student visa at immigration.govt.nz
Step 4: Apply for NZEA 2025 before the April 30,2025 deadline
Step 5: Choose preferred living arrangements and prepare for life in New Zealand.

- Auckland University of Technology (AUT) - Known for innovation and industry links

- Massey University - Specializes in agriculture, design, and veterinary sciences

- University of Canterbury - Recognised for engineering, science, and business
Work and Life in New Zealand for Indian Students
New Zealand provides students with ample work opportunities during their studies, allowing them to work up to 20 hours per week during semester and full time during breaks. Graduates can also avail a 3 year post study work visa, gaining valuable international experience.
Additionally, with the minimum wage increasing to NZD 23.50 per hour from April 2025, students can better support themselves while studying in New Zealand.
