In 2024, IRCC conducted public consultations to establish a new Express Entry draw category and review existing categories for 2025. A proposed “education” category is set to join the five existing categories. Recent updates to the PGWP-eligible programs suggest that the education category will be introduced in 2025. Here are the 6 expected occupations with their NOC codes under this new category.
What are the PGWP-Eligible Fields of Study Under the Education Category?
On December 17, 2024, IRCC added more fields of study related to education, including early childhood education and developmental service workers, to the list of PGWP-eligible programs. It indicates that the new Express Entry category may prioritize occupations in the education sector.

Expected Occupations Under the Education Category
The new Express Entry category for education is likely to include the following occupations.
1. Elementary School and Kindergarten Teachers (NOC Code: 41221)
Elementary school and kindergarten teachers educate students in foundational subjects such as reading, writing, and math, as well as specialized areas like French or English as a second language. They work in both public and private educational institutions.
2. Elementary and Secondary School Teacher Assistants (NOC Code: 43100)
Teacher assistants help students and aid educators with both teaching and administrative duties. They commonly work in public and private elementary, secondary, and special needs schools, as well as in treatment centers.
3. Early Childhood Educators and Assistants (NOC Code: 42202)
Early childhood educators design and oversee programs for children ranging from infancy to 12 years, aiming to foster their intellectual, physical, and emotional development.
Early childhood educator assistants support them in this role and are typically employed in childcare centers, kindergartens, and daycare facilities.
4. Secondary School Teachers (NOC Code: 41220)
Secondary school teachers teach students in academic, technical, or vocational subjects. They work in both public and private institutions. This group also includes department heads within secondary schools.
5. Educational Counsellors (NOC Code: 41320)

6. Instructors of Persons with Disabilities (NOC Code: 42203)
