Canada announces CAD 100 million scholarship initiative for Indian students under new education measures, strengthening Canada-India academic ties and expanding study and research opportunities. Explore the complete details.
According to the new talent strategy agreement between India and Canada, aspiring Indian students who wish to study in Canada can now benefit from million-dollar scholarship rewards, facilitated study pathways, and hybrid campuses.
On March 2, 2026, the office of Prime Minister Mark Carney issued a statement highlighting the new measures agreed to buy both countries, which include:
- CAD 100 million in funding from the University of Toronto, providing up to 200 fully funded scholarships for Indian students in Canada
- 13 new partnerships between Canadian and Indian universities to facilitate better study and exchange opportunities.
- The launch of three new hybrid study locations in India
- An innovation campus as part of the collaboration between Dalhousie University and the Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati and Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Tirupati.
- The University of Toronto Centre of excellence and McGill University Centre of Excellence both would direct Indian and Canadian talent around the research and development of artificial intelligence.
- A memorandum of understanding (MOU) between India and Canada to facilitate opportunities for collaboration and exchanges among universities in both countries in performing arts, visual arts, music, books, entertainment, technologies, and other creative industries

According to the new talent strategy, 13 new MOUs have been signed between Canadian and Indian universities, which affirm their commitment to enabling students and faculty exchanges, research opportunities, and more
