According to the recent update by Canada, Saskatchewan has filed its first-ever changes under the province’s immigration protection laws, marking a pivotal moment in defending the rights of foreign workers and immigrants.
On October 21, 2025, the government of Saskatchewan announced that three employers, Karthik Kumar Prakash Kumar Patel, Ruthvik Hasmukhbhai Patel, and Piyush Kumar Mufatbhai Patel, have been charged under the Foreign Worker Recruitment and Immigration Services Act, 2013 (FWRISA) for alleged exploitation and intimidation of foreign workers at Guac Mexi Grill in Mossy Jaw between August 2023 and February 2024

Each of the accused faces three counts under Sections 22 and 23 of FWRISA, which aims to safeguard the rights and dignity of foreign employees. The Ministry of immigration and Career Training confirmed the following allegations:
- Threatening or retaliating against workers for filing complaints or participating in investigations
- Exploiting workers through coercion, manipulation, or abuse of trust
- Illegally collecting fees or expenses from foreign workers for employment
The accused are scheduled to appear before the Moose Jaw Provincial Court on November 25, 2025.

- Illegal recruitment fees or job-related charges
- Threats, coercion, or intimidation.
All reports will be treated confidentially, and no worker needs permission to file a complaint. Additionally, the Saskatchewan Employment Act provides further protections related to employment standards and workplace safety.
