How were the RNIP communities selected?

The communities were selected through a process that involved applications from the communities themselves. To be eligible, communities had to:

Be located outside of the Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal areas.
Have a population of 50,000 or less and be located at least 75 km from the core of a Census Metropolitan Area, OR up to 200,000 people and be considered remote from other larger cities, according to the Statistics Canada Remoteness Index.
Have job opportunities.
Have an economic development plan.
Have a local economic development organization that can manage the pilot for the community.
Have the infrastructure and ability to settle new immigrants into the community.

The communities that were selected demonstrated their readiness to participate in the pilot, showing that they met these criteria and were prepared to welcome and integrate newcomers into their communities. The final selection was made by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

RNIP Canada Application Process

The Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RN)IP in Canada involves a multi-step application process:
