Frequently Asked Questions

Is it possible to transition from a GIR to a work visa?

The GIR (Graduate Immigration Route) permits graduates to stay in the UK for up to 2 years to seek employment, however, it is not considered a work visa. Graduates under the GIR can switch to a skilled-work visa upon securing a job. The GIR presents Indian students an opportunity for significant experience in the UK's globalized economy, offering exposure for future global business ventures or sought-after positions in multinational corporations.

What steps should be taken once the UK Post Study Work Visa Expires?

After the UK Post-Study Work Visa Ends:
- The UK's Graduate Route Visa or post-study work permit allows graduates to stay and work for up to two years (or three for doctoral degrees).
- Upon visa expiry, those wishing to extend their stay in the UK must apply for a skilled work visa like Tier 2. Candidates need a minimum salary of £25,600 per year or £10.10 per hour (whichever is higher) and a confirmed job offer to apply for Tier 2.

What professional opportunities does the UK post-study work visa offer?

With the UK Graduate visa, you have the flexibility to engage in various professional activities, including a wide array of jobs, self-employment, and voluntary work. Additionally, you can travel internationally and re-enter the UK. However, you are not eligible to seek benefits from public funds or the state pension, nor are you permitted to work as a professional sportsperson.

In what situations am I eligible for an exemption from health surcharge?

If you're a doctor, nurse, or employed in health or adult social care, and qualify for the Health and Care Worker visa, you can be exempted from health surcharge.

Are dependents eligible to seek the UK Graduate Visa?

Certainly. If your partner and children were your dependents when you initially applied for the UK Student Visa (Tier 4 Student Visa) and were in the UK with you, they can also apply to remain as dependents on your UK Graduate Visa.

How much time does it take to get a response on my UK Graduate Visa application?

After submitting your documents, confirming your identity, and applying online, the decision on your UK Graduate Visa application typically takes 8 weeks. However, if additional verification of documents or other factors are necessary, the processing time may be extended slightly.

What are the conditions of the Graduate route?

- Additional studies are permitted under the Graduate Route, but not with a student sponsor for courses meeting Student Visa criteria, nor at state schools.
- Bringing in new dependents isn't allowed. However, dependents already in the UK under a Student Dependent status can apply alongside the Graduate to transition to the Graduate Route.
- The Graduate Route doesn't allow for extensions or contribute towards settlement.
- Upon securing suitable employment, individuals can transition to different work routes from the Graduate Route.
